In part 1 called Self-Doubt I went into what it is and what it does to us. How it stops us from achieving our goals and dreams. I left off with having to face any obstacle that comes our way.

So what are your obstacles and what are you making them mean? My obstacles that came up when I was working on losing those 100 lbs were; I was eating because I was stressed, bored, tired, lonely, when I went out with friends, birthdays, holidays, so many other situations. One of my thoughts that came up from an obstacle was “It would be impossible to not eat what my friends were eating when I am out with them”. This thought only had me doubt my ability that there was anyway to do it.

So if you have an obstacle and you are thinking is impossible it will have you self doubting yourself. What you have to know is that self-doubt is a choice even though it doesn’t feel like it. So even if you think it is impossible what choice are you going to make? Choose self doubt or choice to do whatever it takes to get to your goal.

Are you ready to let self doubt be there and not use it as an escape route to run away from those uncomfortable feelings coming up or are you ready to go all in! If you give in to self doubt it only leads to inaction. Going all in by knowing that self doubt will come up, you will listen to it, understand that it is trying to keep you safe and comfortable but you will not allow it to hold you back. You will not give into the self doubt, it no longer has control over you.

Another obstacle maybe how you think about yourself. Do you think that you are up to doing it? Do you think you are a committed and determined person? How much do you engage in self doubt? Do you feel you have the confidence to do what you want to do? Are you aware that confidence is a choice and self doubt is a choice? You choose confidence, to believe in yourself, to know that fear will be there and to have the courage to do what you are wanting to do.

You can choose confidence to move you forward when it feels hard or you can give in to self doubt that will cause inaction or reaction. Have you stopped dreams because you have so much doubt in getting there? You will never achieve that dream if you are not willing to first acknowledge it so that you can face it and change it. To see it for what it is, that is is only a thought that you are having about yourself.


When I choose to feel confident, that is what I had to intentionally put in my brain every day when the self-doubt tried to come up. This intentional thinking is what fueled me though anything that came my way to try to stop me.


My mentor Brooke Castillo wrote, our ability to grow is our ability to move beyond our own doubtful thinking, your ability to grow is your ability to move beyond self-doubt. Don’t fight against the self-doubt, let it be there because it is part of your growth. This is you moving towards your goals and dreams.
