Are you trying to lose weight but feeling stressed?

Do you say to yourself that you will be able to lose weight when you don’t have any stress or struggles in your life?

Do you think that once you lose weight, life will be easy, not a struggle, stress-free?

Wrong- there will always be struggles or stress in life; it is how you deal with it that makes the difference.

What I want you to be aware of is that if you are feeling stressed due to situations/circumstances in your life, you will not lose weight or keep it off.

When you feel stressed, your body doesn’t know if the stress is real or imaginary; all it knows is you are in trouble, it puts you into survival mode. When you are in survival mode, your body triggers hormones in your body to be released, insulin and cortisol. These hormones signal your body to store weight, store fat and not build muscle, and this is when your metabolism decreases. You will also have decreased digestion and decreased absorption of nutrients. So even if you are eating healthy, you won’t get the benefits from it.

Stress causes you not to lose weight!

Also, when you are feeling stressed, I am sure you end up making unhealthy food choices or overeating.

So I want you to think of the stress as not going away, but instead, you working on building up your ‘stress capacity.’

Think about that hard busy day at work and what thoughts come up for you; I am sure they are not something like; “I just love my boss right now!” or “I can’t wait to do this over tomorrow!”

The thoughts you are having right now are causing you to feel stressed, so by changing how you think of the struggles and stress in your life is how you then have less stress in your life.

I know it is confusing.

We face daily circumstances, and it is our thoughts about the circumstance that lead us to feel stress, so we have been made to believe the only way to decrease the stress is to change the circumstance.

However, we can not make the circumstance change or go away; the only way to decrease or improve the stress that we are feeling is by changing what we are thinking about it.

When we work slowly on changing our thoughts about the circumstance, our feelings then change, and that is how we build up our stress capacity.

When your stress capacity is built up, then stress will not feel like it is too much, or you can’t handle it. You will be at a place where it no longer has control over you.

This is the point where you will not need to turn to food, alcohol, shopping or overworking to deal with it.

Just imagine how your life would be so different if “stress” no longer affected you the way it is now.

Remember that life happens that is normal, but what you are saying to yourself about the situation will make all the difference in how you cope with it.
